Film Premiere: The Defenders: How Lawyers Protected the Movement

Hours

Thursday February 24, 7pm-8pm

During the Civil Rights Movement, African Americans in Mississippi who fought to exercise constitutional rights such as the right to vote and the right to equal protection under the law needed lawyers. This film tells the stories of the three men who overcame challenges and showed exceptional courage in the 1950s and 1960s to represent people fighting for freedom. The Defenders features giants in the civil rights law such as Marian Wright Edelman, Mel Leventhal, Reuben Anderson, Fred Banks, Martha Bergmark, and Constance Slaughter-Harvey.
